ether.fi Cash vs Avici Card (August 2026)

These aren't really competing products. ether.fi Cash pays a real 3% and Avici pays 0% cashback on every tier — Avici's pitch is a 0% FX markup, low fees and a 10%-off card discount, so it only makes sense as a spending card, never as a rewards card.

Head to head, computed

Both cards run through the same engine at three spend levels in US — the region they both actually operate in — with no foreign-currency spend. Each cell shows the best tier that card can reach at that spend.

The engine assumes you can reach whichever tier is cheapest overall — including tiers gated behind loyalty points or a subscription — and charges that tier's cost against the reward. Where a tier's eligibility isn't publicly documented, that's stated on the card's own review. Full rules at /methodology.

Which one wins, and when

You want cashback

ether.fi Cash

Avici pays no cashback at any tier, confirmed on its own documentation. Its computed effective rate is slightly negative once the one-time card issuance fee is amortised over year one.

You spend mostly abroad

Avici

Avici charges 0% FX on every tier. ether.fi charges 0.5% on Core. If your spend is overwhelmingly foreign and you don't care about rewards, that difference can outweigh a 3% cashback rate you're not eligible for.

You want the cheapest card to actually obtain

ether.fi Cash

ether.fi's virtual card is $0, confirmed hands-on. Avici's cheapest virtual card carries a $15 issuance fee, confirmed by in-app screenshot after I'd previously had it wrong at $10.

FAQ

Does the Avici card pay any cashback at all?

No — 0% on every tier, confirmed directly on Avici's own fee documentation. Any page claiming an Avici cashback rate is describing something Avici doesn't publish.

Why does Avici rank negatively on this site?

Because the engine amortises one-time issuance fees over the first year. With no cashback to offset it, a $15 virtual card issuance fee makes the first-year effective rate slightly below zero. From year two it's flat zero.

Is Avici's 10% referral discount worth anything?

It's 10% off the card price, which on a $15 virtual Platinum is $1.50 — real, verified, and small. The genuine value in Avici is the 0% FX markup, not the discount and not rewards.
